Star Wars meets Gonzo

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is one of my favorite movies! Also, Star Wars. So when I saw this — well, a bright spot in my otherwise ‘blah’ day:

I remember Hunter S. Thompson: “No man is so foolish but he may sometimes give another good counsel, and no man so wise that he may not easily err if he takes no other counsel than his own. He that is taught only by himself has a fool for a master.”

I finally have more time in my hands so I’ve been reading and reading. Some more titles on my to-read list:

  1. The Appeal by John Grisham
  2. Cities in Flight by James Blish
  3. Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh
  4. Double Fault by Lionel Shriver
  5. Magical Thinking by Augusten Burroughs

Whew! That ought to keep me busy for awhile :)

Stumbled upon this site that details some awesome things people discover while using Google Earth. Perhaps my favorite is the discovery of this rainforest – amazing:

“War-torn and geographically treacherous, Mozambique provides numerous obstacles for explorers. But thanks to Google Earth, a British scientist, Julian Bayliss, stumbled upon the magnificent acres of rainforest in Mount Mabu – an area that had hitherto been unchartered. In 2008, a group of scientists embarked on an expedition and ended up finding over a hundred new species – plants, birds, butterflies, monkeys, snakes – in just three weeks.”

The Dolomites are a mountain range located in north-eastern Italy. It is a part of Southern Limestone Alps and extends from the River Adige in the west to the Piave Valley in the east. The northern and southern borders are defined by the Puster Valley and the Sugana Valley. The Dolomites are nearly equally shared between the provinces of Belluno, South Tyrol and Trentino.

Only wishful thinking, of course. Still. I’m free to dream anyway, yes?

Oh, Venice!

One of my lifelong dreams is to go on vacation – or live forever in – Venice. This is a view of Venice that will take your breath away:

Venice is a city in northern Italy which is renowned for the beauty of its setting, its architecture and its artworks. It is the capital of the Veneto region. The name is derived from the ancient Veneti people who inhabited the region by the 10th century B.C.

Venice has been known as the “La Dominante”, “Serenissima”, “Queen of the Adriatic”, “City of Water”, “City of Masks”, “City of Bridges”, “The Floating City”, and “City of Canals”. Luigi Barzini described it in The New York Times as “undoubtedly the most beautiful city built by man”. Venice has also been described by the Times Online as being one of Europe’s most romantic cities.

Father’s Day is near and I’ve been designing! I’ve always loved Father’s Day because growing up I had many great father figures in my life. Not just my Dad, but my fun-loving uncles, too! I would also spend lots of time with Dad and my uncles as a kid, so we were very close and I ended up being like a daughter to each of them. Every Father’s day, I do something special with my Dad and his brothers, to celebrate how much they have meant to me over the years. When I was working on the designs, I was thinking of them!
